Where grain used to be stored, a Swiss adventure farm in the canton of Schaffhausen offers unusual overnight accommodation with a special attraction.

Two converted silos on a meadow above Lake Constance can each accommodate two people. The cosy sleeping places on a retracted wooden gallery in the upper area of the 4.50-metre-high attic are accessible via a ladder staircase. In dry weather, the skylight remains open for a romantic night outdoors. 

The round shape of the former silo promises romantic togetherness. Although the windowless depot does not at first give the impression of cosy accommodation, the unexpected inner life holds an original cuddling nest for stargazers in love. On the upper floor there are two mattress dormitories directly under the folding roof. Below, a small'lounge' with a basket bench, shelf and folding table serves as a dressing room and storage room or as a cosy hiding place for a nightcap drink. 

In the evening guests have the choice between a delicious 3-course menu from the organic farm kitchen and a romantic picnic for two at the silo. The environmentally friendly sleeping silos for couples fit into the concept of the certified organic farm, which is also an ideal starting point for a tour of Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls or a bicycle tour along Lake Constance. 

Agriculture has been organic for more than 20 years and, in addition to the direct marketing of milk and meat, has specialised in the cultivation of old vegetables such as spring cabbage, Chioggia beetroot, Palatinate and Küttiger carrots. In addition, adventure tourism was expanded as a further mainstay. Dairy farming plays a key role here. A herd of water buffalo and 25 organic pasture cattle populate the meadows around the farm. Popular activities include milking cows, carriage rides, sawing wood, rubber boat tours on the Rhine or adventure cheese in the copper kettle. 

However, cow riding has proven to be a unique top attraction and tourist magnet. Never has the term'cowboy' and'cowgirl' been more accurate than here. During cow trekking, cow and rider undertake an adventurous ride across meadows and fields (1,5 hours approx. 89,- EUR per cow) after a short introduction and the climbing of the'saddled' cow. 

Since the silos are not heatable, an overnight stay is recommended only in the warm summer months. In cool weather a sleeping bag should be brought along. Bei niederschlagsfreiem Wetter bleibt die Dachluke für eine romantische Nacht unter freiem Himmel geöffnet.

Romantische Zweisamkeit verspricht schon die runde Form des ehemaligen Silos. Obwohl das fensterlose Depot nach Außen zunächst nicht den Anschein einer behaglichen Unterkunft erweckt, birgt das unerwartete Innenleben ein originelles Kuschel-Nest für verliebte Sterngucker. 

Auf der oberen Etage befinden sich zwei Matratzenlager direkt unter dem aufklappbaren Dach. Darunter dient eine kleine 'Lounge' mit Korb-Bank, Regal und Klapptisch als Umkleide und Aufbewahrungsraum oder als lauschiges Versteck für einen Schlummer-Trunk.

Die umweltfreundlichen Schlafsilos für Pärchen fügen sich in das Konzept des zertifizierten Bio-Bauernhofs, der sich auch als idealer Ausgangspunkt für die Besichtigung von Schaffhausen und dem Rheinfall oder eine Radtour am Bodensee entlang eignet.

Die Landwirtschaft wird seit über 20 Jahren biologisch-organisch betrieben und hat sich neben der Direktvermarktung von Milch und Fleisch auf den Anbau von alten Gemüsesorten wie Federkohl, Chioggia Randen, Pfälzer und Küttiger Rüebli spezialisiert. Daneben wurde der Erlebnis-Tourismus als weiteres Standbein ausgebaut. 

Eine Schlüsselrolle nimmt dabei die Milchviehaltung ein. Eine Wasserbüffel-Herde und 25 Bioweiderinder bevölkern die Wiesen rund um den Hof. Zu den beliebten Aktivitäten zählen Kühe melken, Kuhwagenfahrten, Holz sägen, Gummiboot-Touren auf dem Rhein oder Erlebniskäsen im Kupferkessel.

Als einzigartige Top-Attraktion und touristischer Magnet hat sich inzwischen jedoch das angebotene Kuhreiten erwiesen. Niemals war die Bezeichnung 'Cowboy' und 'Cowgirl' so zutreffend wie hier. Beim Kuhtrekking unternehmen Rind und Reiter nach einem kurzen Kennenlernen und dem Besteigen der 'gesattelten' Kuh einen abenteuerlichen Ausritt über Wiesen und Felder (1,5 Stunden ca. 89,- EUR pro Kuh).

The 54 m² suite is one of a total of eight themed rooms, which above Lake Thun provide a romantic break for adults. Situated on a sun terrace 1200 meters above sea level, the complex does not want to be a simple overnight accommodation, but is a fine love oasis with hotel comfort in front of the mountain scenery of  Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. 
The lovingly arranged interior design was created under the expert guidance of a friendly theater prop master. 


Those who adhere to the credo that cooking is 'the sex of old age' should, however, indulge in their hobby in a quiet room at home. In the 'Cucina d'Amore' cooking is not an end in itself, but an expression of love and devotion. 

No one has to resist the temptation here if the seduction starts with the preparation of food. And of course it should be as stress-free as possible. Without tiresome shopping, searching for the right recipe or annoyance about missing ingredients. 

For this reason, the suite not only has a fully equipped cooking block, but also offers 3 ready-made menu suggestions. Especially practical: the necessary ingredients are already in stock!  

In addition to the kitchen, the facility includes a coffee machine, mini-bar, special lighting, erotic literature and a large-screen flat screen TV with an interactive Apple app (with a selection of free movies and music). In addition to a DVD and CD player, there is also a USB connection for your own music from the stick. 

The ensuite bathroom provides sufficient terry towels and two cuddly bathrobes, as well as various bath additives for the whirlpool tub and aromatic infusions for the sauna; furthermore, free care products, a hair dryer, kleenex, cotton pads, massage oil and a massage sponge satisfy even the most demanding needs.

The overnight price includes two rich antipasti plates with cheese, salmon, ham, vegetable dips, bread and a bottle of Prosecco or Moscat for dinner, as well as a delicious fruit platter. Also included is a gourmet breakfast for two persons, which will be brought directly into the suite in the morning according to a pre-filled wish list. During your stay, coffee and drinks from the mini-bar (wine, beer, water, juices, soft drinks) are at your free disposal.

The hotel also has a kiosk at the reception, where you can stock up on the most important things in case there is no toothbrush or shaving lotion in your luggage. There is a restaurant outside within walking distance. No children are allowed in the suites.
