Where grain used to be stored, a Swiss adventure farm in the canton of Schaffhausen offers unusual overnight accommodation with a special attraction.

Two converted silos on a meadow above Lake Constance can each accommodate two people. The cosy sleeping places on a retracted wooden gallery in the upper area of the 4.50-metre-high attic are accessible via a ladder staircase. In dry weather, the skylight remains open for a romantic night outdoors. 

The round shape of the former silo promises romantic togetherness. Although the windowless depot does not at first give the impression of cosy accommodation, the unexpected inner life holds an original cuddling nest for stargazers in love. On the upper floor there are two mattress dormitories directly under the folding roof. Below, a small'lounge' with a basket bench, shelf and folding table serves as a dressing room and storage room or as a cosy hiding place for a nightcap drink. 

In the evening guests have the choice between a delicious 3-course menu from the organic farm kitchen and a romantic picnic for two at the silo. The environmentally friendly sleeping silos for couples fit into the concept of the certified organic farm, which is also an ideal starting point for a tour of Schaffhausen and the Rhine Falls or a bicycle tour along Lake Constance. 

Agriculture has been organic for more than 20 years and, in addition to the direct marketing of milk and meat, has specialised in the cultivation of old vegetables such as spring cabbage, Chioggia beetroot, Palatinate and Küttiger carrots. In addition, adventure tourism was expanded as a further mainstay. Dairy farming plays a key role here. A herd of water buffalo and 25 organic pasture cattle populate the meadows around the farm. Popular activities include milking cows, carriage rides, sawing wood, rubber boat tours on the Rhine or adventure cheese in the copper kettle. 

However, cow riding has proven to be a unique top attraction and tourist magnet. Never has the term'cowboy' and'cowgirl' been more accurate than here. During cow trekking, cow and rider undertake an adventurous ride across meadows and fields (1,5 hours approx. 89,- EUR per cow) after a short introduction and the climbing of the'saddled' cow. 

Since the silos are not heatable, an overnight stay is recommended only in the warm summer months. In cool weather a sleeping bag should be brought along. Toilets and showers are available in the common area of the Biohof. The price includes breakfast, bed linen and towels for two persons. The guests expect freshly made beds on arrival.

Das APC-Quartier im rumänischen Abenteuer-Militärcamp bei Sibiu ist weltweit einzigartig durch die Kombination von militärischem Gerät und Hotelzimmer. Denn hier bettet man sich in einem waschechten Schützenpanzer (Armoured Personnel Carrier, kurz APC), der in der Außenansicht den Eindruck erweckt, als hätte er das Gebäude gerammt. 

Vom Zimmer aus lässt sich das imposante Innenleben des halbierten Panzerfahrzeugs bequem im Liegen bestaunen und erforschen. Neben der funktionsfähigen Ausstiegsluke wurden die meisten Hebel und Armaturen im Originalzustand belassen. 

Das gepanzerte Bett ist nicht nur ein origineller Eye catcher im ansonsten schlicht gehaltenen Hotelzimmer, sondern bietet auch die ideale Einstimmung für den Besuch des zugehörigen Themenparks.Und den sichersten Schlafplatz im weiten Umkreis.

Das Schützenpanzer-Quartier gehört zu den besonderen Übernachtungsangeboten des militärischen Themenparks nahe Sibiu in Rumänien, der in dieser Art europaweit beispiellos ist. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs befand sich auf dem Gelände der zweitgrößte Munitionsproduzent Europas, und noch bis zum Fall des Kommunismus 1989 galt er als der am stärksten bewachte Ort des Landes.

Seit seiner Eröffnung 2009 hat sich der Vergnügungspark für abenteuerlustige Freizeitkrieger und erfahrungshungrige Zeitgenossen als beliebtes Reiseziel für Aktivurlaub und Teambuilding bis nach China herumgesprochen und ist für Gruppen Monate im voraus ausgebucht. Das resorteigene 3-Sterne-Hotel bietet Platz für insgesamt 230 Gäste. 

Exzentrische Urlauber haben die Wahl zwischen einfachen Offiziersunterkünften und ausgefallenen Quartieren wie unterirdischen Bunkern, Haubitzen-Zimmern oder Schützenpanzern, in denen man stilecht nächtigen kann. Ohne dabei auf die Annehmlichkeiten eines Hotels verzichten zu müssen.

Im Schützenpanzer Quartier befindet sich das Bett in eine Hälfte des gepanzerten Fahrzeugs, mit der Kopfseite auf Höhe des Lenkrads. Die spartanische, aber freundliche Unterkunft ist optimal für Action-Liebhaber und harte Individuen, die ein Hotelzimmer nur aufsuchen, wenn sie eine Dusche oder etwas Ruhe brauchen. Zur Grundausstattung des Quartiers gehört ein Fernseher, Heizung, ein Kühlschrank, sowie ein eigenes Badezimmer.

Das Außengelände beherbergt mit rund 150 militärischen Exponaten das größte militärische Freilichtmuseum in Rumänien, darunter Kettenpanzer, Flugabwehrkanonen, Raketenwerfer, Militärfahrzeuge, ein Militärzug und ein Kampfhubschrauber. Der Militärpark erstreckt sich auf 88 Hektar teilweise bewaldeter Fläche mit einem Wegenetz von rund 12 km Länge, die für unterschiedliche Unternehmungen angelegt wurden.

Zur Auswahl stehen zahlreiche Aktivitäten, die vom Adrenalin-Kick eines Power-Jumps (Variante des Bungee Jumping) vom Wasserturm über abenteuerliche Ausfahrten in Kettenfahrzeugen bis hin zur erholsamer Entspannung im neu errichteten Aqua-Park mit 7 Pools reichen. Attraktionen warten selbst auf die Jüngsten, für die seit kurzem ein eigener „Activity Park“ für Kinder und Jugendliche bis 13 Jahre eröffnet hat.

Skater und Fahrradfahrer können auf einen Skatepark und 16 verschiedene Fahrradpisten zurückgreifen. Wer hoch hinaus will, kann sich beim Kletter-Parcour beweisen. Die sechs Strecken sind je nach Schwierigkeitsgrad mit einem Farbkode versehen. Auf der gefährlichsten, der rot markierten, klettert man auf bis zu 20 Metern Höhe. Beliebt ist auch die 600 Meter lange Seilrutsche (Zip-line), mit der man aus 45 Meter Höhe hinunterrasen kann. 

Daneben gibt es eine Kunsteislaufbahn, Tennisplätze, Game Rooms, Minigolf, einen Fitnessraum und die Möglichkeit, ein Militärtraining unter realen Bedingungen zu absolvieren (Instruktor). Dazu gehört auch das angebotene Schießtraining mit richtiger Munition. Die Zielsicherheit kann man beim Bogenschießen vertiefen oder in der Gruppe mit Paintball- oder Airsoft-Gewehren bei der Simulation eines Indoor-Guerilla-Kampfes mit Helm und in voller Camouflage. 

Wer abends dann noch genug Energie aufbringt, kann noch einen Film im Freiluftkino sehen, das Programm im Amphietheater besuchen oder Geschichten am Lagerfeuer austauschen. Es ist Zeit für Grillen, Musik und Spaß. Den krönenden Abschluß eines erlebnisreichen Tages voller Sport und Abenteuer bildet das Essen in der „Offiziersmesse“. Das Park-Restaurant mit zwei Terassen und Feldbestuhlung offeriert gesunde und preisgünstige Kost.

In the cosy captain's berth you need fear neither seasickness nor mutiny. On the 'big caper ride' red signal lanterns give orientation for the decisive pillow fight to the sound of seagull screams and stormy waves. 

On deck, of course, a real cannon is not to be missed. However, its final battle takes on a new function as a practical coffee table. And if you solve the secret of the treasure map on the wall, you will find a veritable rum barrel in the well-hidden bathroom, which serves as a wash basin. 

In order to pass the time in the doldrums, you can either get cinematic inspiration from 'Pirates of the Carribean' or 'Captain Blood' or learn to cheat from playing Kribbitsch cards. Hand-painted tiles, colourful glass windows, wooden ship's hatches and a well-filled pirate's chest make this trip into the world of pirates and corsairs perfect. 

More than 200 experienced craftsmen, craftsmen and artists spent almost 10 years designing the unusual hotel rooms. The fresco painter alone took more than two years (with over forty hours of work per week) to complete the wall decorations.

Hidden bathrooms, cast-iron spiral staircases, a 340 kilogram cannon coffee table, a gypsy cart, an Egyptian sarcophagus, a solid stone door weighing more than half a ton, a chariot and an original 1956 Cadillac convertible are just some of the many curiosities that make the Victorian villa an imaginative synthesis of the arts.

The original owner was a creative visionary. He renovated the neighboring hotel, a former Wells Fargo stagecoach stop, and thought up the theme suites that soon attracted guests from all over the world before the Santa Ynez Valley became a famous wine-growing region.

After his death, the present owner took over the hotel in 2007, which he himself had visited many years earlier. He not only saved the gem from decay, but also brought back the old splendour through an elaborate restoration. He shares his dream of a'Disneyland for adults' with the actual builder. Two more suites are planned for the future, a tree house suite and a'Castaway' suite, for which a sailing dinghy built in 1914 for the King of Denmark will be used.
