Vienna Trailer
This original American Airstream caravan in the green backyard of a Viennese hotel contains a luxury guest room

Those who love freedom and independence and who like to sharpen their view of the world while travelling can not only gain new impressions during a stay in Vienna, but also take the feeling of travelling to bed with them through the unusual overnight stay in an American trailer from 1952.

The heat- and sound-insulated caravan with polished aluminium skin is located in the third district of Vienna in the forecourt of an innovative design hotel, only 8 minutes' walk from Belvedere Palace. Its luxurious interior with freestanding bathtub makes this'hotel room on wheels' an insider tip for all those who appreciate the on-the-road feeling while sleeping and still do not want to do without comfort.

A cult object, in which one can even stay overnight, is parked in the front garden of a special Viennese hotel next to a large sun terrace: the highly polished Silver Streak Clipper belongs to a rare series of American caravans of the legendary Airstream Incorporation.

Its founder designed this particularly striking model with an Alian or wasp-eye look at the stern and bow and had it manufactured only for a short time. The typical aluminium cladding of the Airstreamer built in 1952 harmonises optically with the listed hotel façade from the 60s.

As a symbol of freedom, independence and mobility, the 7-metre trailer was imported from America and transformed into a unique and comfortable hotel room by a boat interior construction professional in Croatia.

Under the direction of a specialist for object equipment, the Airstreamer finally received not only thermal insulation and sound insulation, but also air conditioning, heating, as well as separate WC and hot water.

The service equipment also includes a flat screen TV, telephone and WLAN. Due to the low room height, the urban guest room on wheels has a free-standing bathtub with a view instead of a shower. Of course, the bed also promises the highest level of comfort.

'Urban Gardening' with vines and vegetable beds around the car is an ideal complement to the innovative feeling of living - as a real extension to the outside world and also as a symbol of the openness lived in the hotel. By planting and producing part of the food itself, the family-run lodging establishment also takes responsibility for the environment.

Far beyond the edge of the plate also the sail boat in original size "stranded" on the hotel roof aims, which fits perfectly as art project to the innovative hotel concept.  Basic principles such as gravity, volume, weight and statics seem to be suspended in this impressive sculpture. The fact that realities are crazy and viewing habits are questioned here deliberately underlines the liveliness of the place.

The sight of the curved sailboat does not irritate the neighbouring colonies of bees. Their exotic location on a hotel roof in the middle of the city is seen as a contribution to saving bees threatened by monocultures and varroa mites worldwide. About 4 years after its settlement and several kilos of honey later, the success of the project is undoubted.

The honey used for breakfast and offered for sale in the hotel shop can draw from the variety of neighbouring parks and private gardens, including the Swiss Garden, Belvedere Palace Park and Botanical Garden.

The only place to get into a sweat is in a private indoor sauna. Anchor lamps, wooden planks, ship's mast, steering wheel and a wooden mermaid as figurehead spread exotic flair.

The 85 m² suite with sleeping gallery is one of a total of eight imaginative themed rooms above Lake Thun for a romantic break for adults. Situated on a sunny terrace 1200 metres above sea level, the complex does not want to be a dumb hotel, but sees itself as a noble oasis of love with hotel comfort against the backdrop of the mountains 'Eiger', 'Mönch' and 'Jungfrau'. The lovingly arranged interior was created under the expert guidance of a theatre prop master friend.

From shipwreck to beach vacation to treasure island adventure: the 'Beach Suite' supports every scenario. Whether setting sail, rocking in a hammock, putting your feet in the sand or walking over the plank, on two floors this extravagant love nest with real sand offers many possibilities to stimulate the senses and let your imagination run wild.

The roof beams with hanging anchor lamps and ship ropes give the impression of being on a galleon. Real sand, reeds and palm trees create a beach atmosphere. The many colourful details from the satin bed linen to the wooden mermaid transform the suite with round bed and whirlpool into a seductive playground. A firework of emotions is guaranteed!

'Beach Suite' is equipped with a coffee machine, a mini-bar, effect lighting, erotic literature and a large flat screen TV including an interactive Apple app (with a selection of free movies and music). Besides a DVD and CD player, there is also a USB port for your own music from the stick. In the bathroom there are not only terry towels and two cuddly bathrobes, but also various bath additives for the whirlpool and aromatic infusions for the sauna; furthermore, free care products, Kleenex, cotton pads, massage oil and a massage sponge leave nothing to be desired.

Accommodation price includes two rich antipasti platters with cheese, salmon, ham, vegetable dips, bread and a bottle of prosecco or Moscat for dinner, as well as a delicious fruit platter. Also included is a gourmet breakfast for two persons, which is brought directly to the suite in the morning according to the wish list filled in beforehand. During your stay, coffee and drinks from the mini-bar (wine, beer, water, juices, soft drinks) are at your disposal.

The hotel also has a kiosk at the reception, where you can stock up on the most important things if your luggage does not have a toothbrush or aftershave. A restaurant is within walking distance. No children are allowed in the suites.

Stargazing in a Treehouse with foldable roof

Sky Lodge Treehouse with foldable roof | Unique overnight stay under the clearest starry sky of England | Forest Glamping for stargazers
Sky Lodge Treehouse
Fascinating outdoor accommodation with expandable roof

Created in collaboration with a treehouse designer, Sky Lodge features a gable-shaped sleeping deck with a spectacular convertible roof for automatic opening to admire the darkest night sky of England.

Couples with a sense of romance, nature lovers and hindered astronomers will enjoy themselves under the starry skies of Northumberland National Park, which have been awarded by the International Dark Skies Association.

This fascinating and innovative forest accommodation surpasses all expectations of a conventional tree house and at the same time meets the wishes of many people with disabilities who would like to spend the night in a largely barrier-free tree house.

This unusual tree house consists of three areas: the central' Square', a cleverly designed room with glass doors overlooking the river, the' Circle', a cosy panoramic area with a small wood-burning stove and the' Triangle', a gable-shaped roof floor with a double bed from which you can look up through large windows.

With appropriate weather conditions and no wind, the entire roof can be opened at the push of a button to spend the night under an open starry sky.

Undisturbed by artificial light sources, the overnight guests can expect an impressive nightly spectacle in the sky. Because here the night sky is darker than anywhere else on the British island. Ideal for watching shooting stars, exploring foreign stars or marveling at the white ribbon of the Milky Way.

The lower floor is equipped with multifunctional furniture for folding out or stacking, allowing the central room to be converted from a living area into a bedroom with two single beds in no time at all.

In addition to a compact mini-kitchen, there is also barrier-free access to the outside bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. The wide balcony is accessed via glass doors, from which not only the passing North Tyne can be seen, but also the characteristic red squirrels in the trees.

The outdoor area with its stove and folding table has been placed in a section of a drainage pipe on the motorway and, thanks to its practical roofing, offers a sheltered outdoor area for a barbecue or the obligatory 5 o' clock tea, even in case of light rain or wind. If you like, you can brew your cup of coffee in an old-fashioned way over a wood-burning stove.

At the very top of the gable, the sleeping chamber with convertible roof, which can be reached via an outside staircase, forms the crowning glory of the wooden construction, which has been built in a way that is gentle on nature and resources. In an unusual blend of tree house, art installation and observatory, the functionally conceived Sky Lodge conveys unique natural experiences in a magical place.

Situated in the heart of Northumberland's water and forest park, this wonderfully bizarre accommodation is the perfect starting point for wildlife lovers, stargazers or adventurous families.

As the home of osprey and habitat for almost half of the native red squirrels in England, the artificially created nature park is considered Europe's largest commercial forest. Together with the Lake District, the UK's largest reservoir with a capacity of 200 million litres, which was created in 1982 to supply drinking water, the region has become a popular recreational area.

The wide range of leisure activities on offer provides sailing and water sports, rope courses, climbing parks and orientation trails to horseback riding, paragliding and exploring a copper mine. For wheelchair users and people with limited freedom of movement, tours by hand bike, canoeing or archery are on the programme. Most of the activities are coordinated by an outdoor centre, which is only a few minutes' walk away from Sky Lodge.

In the cooler months it can get a bit cold at Sky Lodge, so if you are planning to make a reservation, don't forget your cardy (and warm underwear)!

Retired London double-decker bus turns out to be a splendid Glamping lodge

Trafalgar Bus Glamping Retreat in United Kingdom (County Durham) | The idea of transforming a retired city bus into a luxurious accommodation may not be one of the most original ideas, but this modified London double-decker bus with private spa & bathtub in the north-east of England exceeds all expectations and can rightly be called unusual
Trafalgar Bus Retreat
Iconic double-decker bus from 1960s serves as luxury accommodation for lovers

The idea of transforming a bus into a luxurious accommodation may not be one of the most original ideas, but this converted London double-decker bus in the north-east of England exceeds all expectations and can rightly be called unusual.

As soon as you open the gate to the private garden, where the London bus to Trafalgar Square has been parked, you are overwhelmed by the bright red cult car, which shows all stops of the former route on the original signpost.

Access to the interior of the discarded bus is through a representative door in the style of the British government seat 'Downing Street Number 10'. And as soon as you're on board the fancy quarter on wheels, the next surprise follows in the form of an exclusive bathroom with a free-standing bathtub and view of the flat screen TV installed opposite.

The upper deck serves as living and sleeping space, which accommodates a breakfast corner with original seating including table, a custom-made couch and a comfortable Queen Size bed.

Immediately upon boarding the converted passenger compartment, guests are welcomed by a bathroom in elegant shades of grey, which has a free-standing bathtub with a flat-screen TV integrated into the wall.

The unexpected sight almost makes you forget where you are - just a few original features like the steering wheel behind a window above the washbasin remind you that the quaint guest room once swayed through London's city centre as a regular bus.

As is customary in double-decker buses, a steep spiral staircase leads to the upper deck, where 40 of the 77 seats available used to line up. The tunnel-like room with a low ceiling forcing tall guests into a slightly bent corridor was redesigned with red velvet and equipped with impermeable curtains that protect the opulent bedroom from prying eyes.

In addition to the feudal bed in front of a grey upholstered front wall, the furnishings include a comfortable sofa and a spacious seating area with table.

The bus was put into service in the 1960s and also operated during the 1966 World Cup in London. During the conversion into accommodation, great importance was attached to the greatest possible authenticity and an attempt was made to preserve as much original substance as possible. The upstairs staircase has also been renovated, but due to the steep steps it is unsuitable for persons with reduced mobility as well as for children and pets.

A well thought-out lighting system with remote control and candlelight creates a romantic atmosphere throughout the entire bus and contributes significantly to a pleasant stay.

Together with the outdoor area, which includes a small garden and a private whirlpool, the ensemble forms a truly unique love nest, perfect for a stimulating getaway for two. Guests are greeted with delicious appetizers and prosecco at the reception, while fluffy bathrobes and bath towels made of Egyptian cotton are ready for relaxing moments in the bathroom.

The sought-after accommodation in the red double-decker bus is located on the ground of a family-run country hotel on the edge of a former mining town between Durham and Newcastle, both of which with their historical sights, theatres, restaurants, galleries and shops can be reached in 20 minutes by car. Several imaginative themed rooms and the adjoining pub with an upscale menu also make the Inn the ideal location for weddings.

The location on a busy main street is offset by the proximity to the Beamish Open-Air Museum, famous for its vibrant presentation of Victorian and Edwardian times, including complete buildings, shops, mines, trams and steam engines.

Sioux Suite
Italian hideout for lovers in native American style

Who hasn't played cowboy and Indians as a child before? There's no question that one or two of you will again howl like Indians after entering this magical suite! Here you are in the middle of the Sioux. In search of a vision, you commit the most solemn of all Indian rituals - the "Dance of the Sun".

Maybe the spirit of Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse will capture you. It's possible that the great Manitu will also be watching... something is in the air, a presence can be felt. Maybe the spirit of an ancestor, or is it just the presence of your partner?

Take a look around and find an inviting tepee ready to rest after a stressful hunt. The smoke signals may be a reminder of war, but more seductive is the nearby water basin for a ritual bath for two. After that, there is still time to dig out the hatchet or take the peace pipe.

This stylish theme room combines the charm of a genuine Indian tipi with the comfort of a modern, ergonomic mattress. This doesn't make a pale face a red-skin colour, but the design of the furnishings has not been saved with the appropriate colouring. Starting from the large whirlpool, integrated in the prairie-red rocky landscape of this original dwelling, up to real buffalo skins.

Colours and scenery are perfectly coordinated and convey a feeling of security in the bosom of nature, far from all dangers of the Wild West.

Let the specially developed production of sounds, light, music and smells lead you into the mystical world of Sioux! So the eternal game of the chief and his squaw can begin - with you in the leading roles. Because tonight almost everything is allowed - except a campfire. So put on the war paint and discover your wild nature!

The luxurious room is equipped with air conditioning, mini-bar, coffee-pad machine and LCD flat-screen TV and has access to a private terrace. It also has an en-suite bathroom with bathrobes, slippers and a Jacuzzi. Coffee and mineral water are available free of charge. The music and scenario control is intuitive via a practical touch-screen monitor and can be easily adapted to the respective needs.

The hotel facilities include a wellness area with whirlpool, steam bath, colour light therapy and a Turkish bath. As a guest there is a free parking space reserved for you on the hotel premises. The centre of Turin can be reached after a 30-minute walk from the accommodation.

Suite Chambre Stellaire
Romantic hideout for Stargazer in a disused water tower in France

A converted water tower offers unique accommodation for guests in a village on the historical Camino de Santiago. Not only pilgrims are welcome to spend a night in the former water tank, where the so-called "Star Room" (chambre stellaire) is hidden.

In addition to a spectacular terrace with 360° panoramic views, a circular porthole above the bed provides a clear view of the night sky.

The façade of the windowless circular building, whose floors are connected by an elevator, is decorated with colourful wall paintings entitled "On the way to the stars". The frescoes thematize regional ties and recreate the decommissioned concrete tower as a work of art.

In the middle of the rural Gascony on the church square of a village typical of the region, the municipality has opened up a new perspective on the picturesque village with its 500 inhabitants by opening an unusual guest room in its former water tower.

Built in the 1930s, the water reservoir with its height of more than 10 metres dominates most of the buildings in the municipality. In the form of a champagne cork (top wide, bottom narrow) the circular formwork concrete construction comprises three living floors, which have found space in the old water tanks and are connected with each other by a specially designed lift.

On the ground floor there is a kitchen and dining area, while on the first floor a bathroom made of polished concrete with WC is situated.

The highlight forms the bedroom on the second floor, which has a special feature: a circular window in the ceiling, through which the stars can be observed from the double bed (160 cm wide) of the sky and in clear nights. A telescope is also available on request, which not only inspires amateur astronomers. The ceiling hatch is almost light-tight, so that you can sleep in absolute darkness in the otherwise windowless rooms if necessary.

An outside staircase leads from the bedroom to the roof terrace, from where you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the vineyards of Armagnac. Two deck chairs are available so that overnight guests can enjoy the view while lying down. In addition, the terrace is equipped with a table and two chairs, so that you can enjoy your meals in the open air.

In consideration of ecology and cultural heritage, both insulating and environmentally friendly materials like hemp and earth were used for the insulation and interior walls of the technical monument.

Jean-Paul Chambas's artistic design presents the exterior wall as an open-air gallery visible from afar. The all-round fresco was created by the figurative painter as a journey through time and space and takes up numerous regional motifs. For example, shoes as the most important pilgrim's props and the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela are the theme of the Camino. In addition, a colourful medley of sunflowers, trapeze artists, rugby, belmondo, geese and chickens romps about as local allusions on the curved wall.

Really an exciting accommodation that is worth more than a stopover! The star room in the water tower is particularly popular with couples, pilgrims, hobby astronomers, romantics and art lovers.

Spend the night like a recreation fighter in an authentic WWII air-raid shelter

WWII Air-raid shelter converted to unique hotel lodging in Moravia | This minimalist bunker accommodation is equipped with scrapped helmets and guns for souvenir photos | The overnight stay is connected with breakfast and pool access in the nearby hotel where guests can also use toilet and bathroom
Bunker Home
Disused air-raid shelter in Moravia offers unconventional overnight experience

Are you looking for adventure, keen to experiment and love historical relics where history comes alive? Then a night in this reconstructed World War II bunker might be the right thing for you.

The disused air-raid shelter is suitable for an unconventional and undemanding overnight stay for up to two persons and is located just a few dozen metres from the hotel, which serves as a point of contact for the unusual accommodation.

The above-ground bunker is equipped with simple sleeping places (2 beds with cushions and sleeping bags...). The austere decoration of this formerly military equipment consists of scrapped militaria (soldier helmets, machine gun, spade), which you can also use as props for private photos.

Candles serve as lighting. Daylight enters the interior via the few loopholes only to a limited extent. It is therefore recommended to bring a flashlight. Fearful people or guests with a tendency to claustrophobia are not advised to stay overnight.

The overnight price includes a tasty breakfast buffet in the nearby hotel restaurant. Guests in the bunker can also use hotel facilities such as fitness room and wellness area (swimming pool, whirlpool and steam sauna) free of charge for one hour during the opening hours between 10.00 and 22.00 hrs. Other hotel activities such as bowling alley, tennis court, golf, billiards, darts or bike rental are available for a fee.

Thanks to its central location, many interesting destinations in the surrounding area can be discovered. The accommodation is located in South Moravia, only 8 km from Znajm, not far from the Austrian border, and can be reached quickly from Brno (60 km), Vienna (80 km) or Prague (103 km).

Every guest is treated in the same way as private guests at home would be. The hotel not only offers unusual accommodations, but also fulfils special wishes for an extra charge (for example celebrating up to the morning in the wine tavern, candlelight swimming in the pool outside the opening hours and much more).
