Holidays with Picasso in a converted railcar with driver's cab

Picasso Railway Inn | Unique holiday appartement for 4 persons in a converted railcar of the type 'Picasso' - a train with a side-mounted tower-like driver's cab, which was one of the most striking vehicles in the second half of the 20th century in #France | Train accommodation with its own terrace and a lot of original substance
Picasso Railway Inn
Unique not only in France: close to the bay of Lorient, this unusual apartment is located in an old railcar from the 1950s

The conversion into a comfortable accommodation for up to six people kept as much of the original substance as possible. In addition to the typical furnishings of a train, the apartment for railway nostalgics also offers access to the tower-like raised driver's cab, which gave the vehicle its unmistakable appearance and nickname' Picasso'.

The modern equipment with heating, air-conditioning, flat-screen TV, private bathroom and kitchen is in a refreshing contrast to the original ambience of the railway-technical oldie, which was used on the French railway network until 1988.

Not only lovers of railways will be fascinated by this unadulterated holiday accommodation. Placed on a railway siding in the garden of a country inn, the decommissioned motor coach of the X3876 series has found a new lease of life as an overnight accommodation on wheels after extensive renovation.

The driver's cockpit, which is mounted on the side of the roof like a crooked nose, gave the track its nickname' Picasso', following the Cubist portraits of the painter. This made this model one of the most striking rail vehicles to be seen in France in the second half of the 20th century.

Another special feature of the railcar is the engine behind the windshield. The engine room and the adjoining passenger area now house the 40-square-metre Picasso apartment, which also leads to the driver's cab.

After complete dismantling, the railcar was completely renovated and, in addition to double glazing and insulation, received new electrical wiring, heating, air conditioning and a modern standard sanitary area. Windows, doors, ceilings and the walk-in driver's cabin were largely preserved in their original condition. Authenticity is also ensured by the remaining furniture such as tables and seating for 6 persons, folding seats, luggage racks and two berths.

Guests enjoy the modern comforts of a new bathroom with shower and toilet, flat-screen TV and free Internet (Wifi). In addition to a bedroom with a double bed and allergic bed linen, the apartment has two sleeping berths and a further living room with two single beds, where an extravagant floor window opens up the view of the normally hidden vehicle substructure. Original woollen blankets from the state railway company with the SNCF logo woven in serve as bedspreads.

The practical kitchen equipment with fridge, sink, combi oven contains all the necessary utensils for preparing breakfast and other meals.

In the adjacent main house guests will find a bar, restaurant and reception. On a private terrace you can eat self-made meals in the open air. The accommodation is an ideal starting point for trips through southern Brittany and offers a wealth of tips and information that will make your stay particularly rewarding.

As a charming souvenir, personalised 'tickets' are available at the reception desk at check-in. There you can also rent a multimedia tablet containing films and documentaries on the history of the railcar, photos of the conversion as well as animated cartoons and railway-related games.

By the way, suitable props such as a train driver's hat are available for all those who have been prevented and would-be train drivers, which is also suitable for a souvenir photo.
